week 22: typhoon maria
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!
こんにちは
Oita is amazing! We see so many miracles every day. We had a lot of great contacts this week and laughed a ton. Sister Whitney is hilarious! We are constantly talking and telling stories! Heavenly Father blessed me so much to have her as my companion. We had a busy week full of rain. It rained really hard and we were in a typhoon (don't worry we are all safe and healthy) ! The typhoon was crazy windy and we ended up having to go inside for the night. So crazy but we are safe. There were some flood warnings and we were fine. We came in soaked every day and it was so much fun!
Spiritual keiken: We are told to talk to everyone. We do our best, but it is really hard because awkward humans. But we made a goal to do our best! We went to to talk to this girl and she got way excited. She started talking to us and said "I can't believe you remember me!" And we were super confused, but just went with it. Turns out, she is the Krispy Kreme worker we talk to when we have lessons there. And she loves us because we always make small talk. So you never know how much the little things mean to people. That was just a real eye opener.
Funny keiken: We are always laughing and having fun. But one of the funniest thing this week was the rain. It was like golf ball size raindrops! We were instantly soaked through and laughing. We just found joy in the crazy weather. We stopped this lady, and she spoke crazy good english and learned it from TV. She took us to a festival and pretended to know what was going on to explain it to us and it was really funny!
4th of July! We wanted to do something "American" so we made burgers! We visited a potential and told her about the 4th of July and she then took us to an import store with American food and we got root beer and had root beer floats! It was a party!
New words:
おや (oya):parents
バプテスマ (baputesuma) : baptism
I love you all. I can't express it enough. I love our Heavenly Father and the longer I'm out, the more I see Him in our lives. Look for Him and He will be there, I promise!
Love, Thompson Shimai
Bit and pieces from family emails:
We are going to yakuniku for lunch...it's a place where you pick your meat and then grill it on a little grill yourself! It's sooo yummy! I also tried "sweets paradise"...it's an all you can eat dessert place! HEAVEN!!
We have 5 pretty solid investigators. We visited most with Waka Chan. She is 13 and so cute!
We have a 4 hour bus ride later today to Kumamoto. We will spend the night with other sisters and then meet our new mission president, Pres. Mack tomorrow! Can't wait!
the festival..we really had no idea what was happening!
and check out all the rain on those umbrellas!
