week 27: I killed Whitney Shimai

Missing my other half so much!
Sister Whitney taught me and loved me and I'll miss her always!

こんにちは
This week was a lot of change! We had transfers! I am now companions with Sister Hayward. She was just in Fukuoka. She is super sweet and loves books. So in this mission when a missionary returns home, we say they died and whoever was their last companion is their killer. So I killed Sister Whitney and that was crazy! We said goodbye to a lot of people and had so many miracles! We ate the best yakiniku (a place where you cook your own meat on a grill in the table), it was so fancy! Okamoto San wore a yukata (traditional japanese clothing-- male version)! It was the best, and then the next day we had a lesson with him. We also met with our referral and he is amazing and could actually be baptized any day. He is going on a trip, so we are going to meet when he comes back in October.

Funny keiken:  So I was getting a new companion this week right? So Whitney Shimai left at 8 am to Fukuoka.  Hayward Shimai was at a doctors appointment for some stuff and so they weren't sure what time she was coming to Oita.  But I needed a companion, so I spent 8 hrs with a member. It was so crazy! Ando Shimai doesn't speak a lot of English, and so we had some difficulty communicating but we both survived!  It was really fun though. She is so sweet!

Spiritual keiken: So transfers are terrifying. You honestly love your investigators so much and having someone new come in is scary, because you don't want these people to drop. So I was pretty nervous.  A few days after Hayward Shimai arrived, we messaged Yoko Shimai to see if we could meet with Waka Chan. They couldn't meet and said they couldn't come to church. I was heart broken and so worried that they were going to drop. So on Sunday after church, we stopped by their house. Only Yoko Shimai was home but she let us in, and we talked and she brought up a lot of Waka Chans concerns. So we taught her and addressed the concerns. Then after we prayed and were about to leave, Waka Chan came home. I was so thankful! She loved Hayward Shimai and we started to strengthen that relationship.  It was a miracle for me because I love Waka Chan so much and I was praying she would love Hayward Shimai!  It was a miracle honestly!

New words:
あたらし(atarashi):new
ようき(youki): cheerful

Honestly everyone... I know Heavenly Father is there and loves us. He answers prayers and cares about us! He answered so many of my prayers and gave me so much comfort this week! It is only through Him that I can do this mission. There is heartbreak from people leaving or you leaving or investigators who you love who decide not to follow Christ. There is joy from new companions and new friends and watching your heavenly sibling realize Heavenly Father cares about them. The ups and downs are amazing and hard and I'm so thankful for it all! I know if you ask Heavenly Father anything, He will answer. If you need comfort, He will help. If you feel like the world is too much, He will lighten your load and help you go on. I love you all so much! Ask Heavenly Father for help this week! I promise He will always help!

Love, Thompson Shimai

Bits and pieces from family emails:
Sister Hayward is from Spanish Fork, Utah. I can't believe I've been blessed with 3 companions from the states! She has a huge heart and I love how much she loves people. She goes home in December so just 2 transfers left. I'm excited to get to know her better!
It was so hard to say goodbye to Whitney Shimai...lots of tears.
Today we are running to daiso (dollar store but so much better than the ones in America!) We're also stopping at the 7-11 to buy fruit.
I love all the cute stationary here in Japan! There is the cutest Disney notebooks...except for Mulan...that movie is not well known here, which is funny because it takes place in China. AND because it's MULAN...the ultimate disney princess!
I also love all the cute socks. Clothes here are much more modest than in America so it's really easy to find cute stuff!
It's been so hot that I've given up on makeup. It just melts off my face...I'll wear it again when the weather cools down!
I'm still working on my Japanese every day...it's not easy, and I don't know a lot, but I know enough and the Lord takes care of the rest!

Last shopping trip with Witney Shimai...
