week 31: run run as fast as you can!

Seeing Rasmussen Shimai at our mulit-zone training
was a breath of fresh air! How I miss her!!

こんにちは

This week was crazy cool! We had a lot of fun things. I got sick one day and so we were stuck inside and I slept 8 hrs. That was weird.  I haven't taken a nap like that in forever, but I really felt awful. While I slept, Hayward Shimai phone dendoued (called random people in our phone). She made a lesson appointment for Saturday night and that was awesome! Sorry not a great summary but here are some stories!

On Thursday, Hayward Shimai and I went to Fukuoka for a conference with Elder Yamashita of the Quorum of the Seventy and Elder Wada of the Quorum of the Seventy (more on that later). On the way there, we got on our line accounts and noticed a message from Youko Shimai, and the way it was written it sounded like she was cutting contact with us and Waka Chan. So we were really worried because our focused person we were teaching was dropping. But we couldn't do much, because Youko Shimai had either blocked us or deleted her account, but either way we couldn't contact her. Needless to say, we worried a lot. Then on Saturday I got a message from an new account right as I am hopping in my futon. It was Youko Shimai and she had accidentally deleted her account! We were so relieved and she wanted to still meet. Sunday afternoon, we surprise visited them and gave them cookies (that I made! Didn't burn the house down!) and a drawing I had made for Waka Chan! They were so excited to see us! I'm pretty sure I was even more excited!!

So Hayward Shimai made the Saturday appointment right? So we go to this appointment, and he had requested the Miura ビショップto be a joint. So we had him and Iwata きょだい help out. Well, the man's name is Noguchi san and we found out during the lesson that he lives in Beppu (out of our area) and he drove to our area to meet with us! So nice and he loves gospel choir, so he is pretty much super prepared. Sadly, we have to pass him to the Beppu Elders but it was so funny because he wasn't from our area happened to be in our phone.

Spiritual keiken: Okay so I met 2 members of the Quorum of the Seventy this week and they gave a training to 4 zones in Fukuoka!  It was really cool and I loved it so much! I got to see some old friends like Rasmussen Shimai and Van Afen Shimai  and many more! It was a really amazing experience just hearing them talk and receiving a lot of answers to prayers. One thing they focused on was love, loving everyone from our companion to members to people we meet on the street. It was amazing how they taught this. They told us about it, then demonstrated, and then had us practice it. It definitely stuck more this way.

Funny keiken: So after the conference my whole district was getting on the same bus. We all thought that the second bus was leaving at 5:30. So we were on this extremely packed bus to get to Hakata. We got to Hakata and our District Leader, Elder Campbell, was like "Beppu roll out!!" and he started booking it to the bus. We all followed but it was only 5:08. We all just ran to keep up...literally ran because he has crazy long legs and was moving really fast!  We got there and he bought all the tickets and by 5:11 we were on the bus. When Elder Campbell was buying tickets, the rest of us realized that the bus was leaving at 5:11 not 5:30! We all thought we still had 20 minutes! On the bus we were all laughing and Elder Campbell was way impressed that we followed him even though we all thought he was crazy for going so fast. Just shows you to follow by faith and not sight!

New words:
よわい (yowai):weak
あかし(akashi): evidence, proof, (used for testify or testimony)
えみ(emi): smile

This week I learned about being positive. It is honestly hard in some moments to be positive, but the Lord will help you see the good if you try. Smiling is the best way. It's true that you can fake it till you make it. If you try, you can see the positive and that will make the hard days better and the trials much easier to go through.

私は天のお父様皆さんを愛すると知っています!かれは助けます。私たちはかれに尋ねます。
I know Heavenly Father loves everyone. He will help. We just have to ask.

I love you all!
Love Thompson Shimai

Bits and pieces from family emails:
We were able to get out more this week since Hayward Shimai is feeling a bit better...of course, I got sick for one day...but still, it was good to be out meeting people and sharing.
I had a pear caramel frappe at Starbucks and wow...so so good!
Elder Hafen from American Fork is in my district and it's been wonderful seeing someone from home!
I'm getting pretty good at cooking...most days I make stir fry, salads, mamadofu, tuna wraps and anything else I can throw together. I also eat raw eggs over hot noodles or natto...weird right? (and yes, my mom is super grossed out by this!)
The coolest thing I saw this week was Waka Chan's face when I gave her the picture I drew her! She was so happy!!
I am trying to know the Lord's will for me and then do it.

Riding the bus to Fukuoka...little photobomb from Hafen Choro!

Picture of me drawn by Waka Chan...best moment of the week!!

Even in Japan, Halloween comes out in September!
