week 53: are you a grass eater? or a meat eater?
Ginowan and Naha zone conferences this week!
こんにちは
Okay so this week was pretty awesome! We had a ton of lessons and a lot of fun. We had family home evening and the Garcias came. It was really fun. We also had zone taikai (conference) and interviews. It was so nice to see our mission president and shimai. I miss them a ton. We had a new sister from the Kobe mission come down and she is super nice. We all love her. We also had some fun activities this week too. We got to go a tour of an elementary school on base and it was pretty awesome. I want to be a teacher and they were showing what the 21st century schools look like and gave me a lot of career advice. It was really awesome! Sister Jorgensen and I are always laughing and having just a crazy good time!
Funny keiken: So this week we laughed so much I don't know where to begin.. but I think one of the best was on meat day (2/9->ni/kyuu->niku(meat)). We went to a shabushabu place and had all you can eat meat. We were with a bunch of really funny people. We talked to the girls a lot and of course got on the subject of boys. They are Japanese and wanted to learn if we have 草食系男子 (grass eaters) and 肉食系男子(meat eaters). I died not knowing what it is! Basically it's guys who are passive and guys who are actively trying to ask girls out. It was super funny. Are you a grass eater or a meat eater? Haha!
Spiritual keiken: So we had zone taikai and learned about the power of forgiveness and how it works two ways. 1--you have to forgive what they did to you and 2--Ask them to forgive you. It was really cool to talk about how there are 2 parts to the story. It's like in the back of a normal family's car when the kids are fighting and one yells "Mom! They hit me!" And the one that hit yells "but let me tell you why" and proceeds to tell the whole story. It doesn't justify it, but it shows that both sides were in the wrong...anyway, something I learned that I thought was cool.
New words
にく(niku):meat
そうしょくけいだんし(soushokukeidanshi): grass eating boys
にくしょくけいだんし(nikushokukeidanshi): meat eating boys
I know this church is true and as we follow the commandments our testimony will grow. I love this experience. I haven't been happier in my whole life and it is because I focus on me the least. It's amazing the joy you find as you forget yourself and serve others. I love you all.
Love,
Thompson Shimai

Bits and pieces from family emails:
We taught 13 lessons again this week...3rd week in a row! That is the most teaching we've ever done! Teaching and finding ways to serve are for sure the best part of the week!
We found two more investigators this week, and excited to see what happens.
The biking is going great...feeling almost back to normal!
Eikaiwa classes
SPORTS DAY!
Every Saturday...and it's becoming a bigger thing every week!
It's a great way to get to know the members,
and something fun for our new friends as well!
