week 60: my brush with Hollywood
dinner appointment with the Anderson family...
oh how I love them!
こんにちは!
This week was busy! On Monday we got stranded at the little shopping area by our house. It was maybe a 20 minute walk away from our apartment. It was a down pour and with Sister Mauldin`s health, we have to stay out of the rain so we hung out there and at 7:30 we finally were able to leave, but it was pretty fun! Tuesday we had district council and a branch mission meeting. I was able to set up some things for next week and later in the week. Also bought another shisa from our shop lady friend. Wednesday we had JUNKAIS! So I was with Sister Perkins! She is so kind and funny and bold. We went to help on of the PCSing (permanent change of station? I think). We cleaned their house with them and it was fun. Afterwards, we went to visit some members and returning members. It went really good. We actually got a lot of free food visiting people...way fun to switch it up! Thursday we went and visited a different returning member and WOW! This sister is the strongest person I have ever seen in person. She does strongman and a few years ago took 7th place! Crazy. She is honestly amazing, she doesn't look like the gross unnatural body builders either she is very petite! Friday was a break day for health Sister Mauldin's health, but we got Mexican food that day..Yum! Saturday we had sports day but not a lot of people came so it ended early. Also we went back to the Baumgatner`s house and had Family Home Evening with the saints from camp Schwab...Really fun. John Wayne Shultz (former season 16 American Idol contestant) sang for us and it was really cool, and I loved hearing some country music! Then Sunday we went up to Schwab and said goodbye to some of the marines for a while. They are going back to Utah in a couple weeks so we might not see them for a bit. Then we had dinner with the Davis family. They have the cutest baby! It was really fun and they brought friends too so really good experience!
Spiritual keiken: So on Junkais we went to visit Kamiyama shimai. She was outside her shop/house and so we were able to start up a conversation pretty easily. She invited us in and gave us candy and drinks. Super sweet. Well we were sitting in her house and talking and I had a way Natsukashii (nostalgic) feeling of when I was in my first 2 areas. I kinda had a reflecting moment and realized how far I have come. I can understand mostly what they are saying and I can tell what the actual words I don't know are. I wasn't as scared and I could see that I've grown a ton. This really has been the best year and a little more for me as a person to grow.
Funny keiken: At the Baumgartners we had singing time and I got to watch and record some of the funniest songs I have ever heard. The literal best though was all the MARINES singing "I'll make a man out of you" from Mulan and one of them doing the high part! It was soooo funny and I totally just had a blast! Marines are kinda my favorite people lately...their stories are super funny!
New words:
たいくつしのぎ (taikutsushinogi): killing time
めいじる(meijiru): to order, to command
あじわう (ajiwau): to taste
I love you all so much! I'm loving every day and I'm so thankful for the support and prayers. Have a great week!
Love,
Sister Thompson
Bits and pieces from family phone calls:
Most of our appointments this week were with members and returning members. The members here are so good about letting us come and teach in their homes, and inviting their friends to learn about the gospel.
I'm trying so hard not to think to much about life after the mission, but I do have a "babylon" book for when I just need to write down a few things that are worrying me about coming back...it helps to not have to keep it in my head! haha!
I am happy...so happy!!
Sobe Beach
Okinawa truly is heaven
