week 65: squid is chewy

Zone Conference calls for matching hats and faces like these!

こんにちは!

This week was a spiritual beast! Let's jump right in! So Monday we were making our awesome crafts... so our original plan was pillowcases but we ended not finding enough, so instead we found hats!! and that was way cooler! We made hats for the zone that said "Hiroshima zone"! So fun! We used our crafting skills and fabric markers..haha! We also went and visited some returning members! Then Tuesday we had an amazing zone conference!  It was way spiritual and after we did a District Leader council and there was a lot of really cool stuff taught. On Wednesday we had a lesson with a member. Thursday we had Eikaiwa and it was really fun. I talked about music with a couple of girls for a while. I definitely want to learn more instruments when I have time. Then Yoko san (an Eikaiwa student) took us to the flower festival...that is a famous event in Hiroshima.  It has lots of events and tons of venders and weird food. It's like a carnival but no rides and way more food! We tried bbq squid...very chewy...I was not a fan...not at all. We also visited another returning member. Saturday we went to the flower festival again but with a recent convert and a member and with Okinaga San. It was really good for them to get to know each other! We built really good relationships and at the end they were all fellowshipping each other. So we are not teaching Okinaga san as much so it was really good he came and made friends. On Sunday we had church and then a member invited us to her dance concert and guess where it was.... the flower festival!  A 3 day festival and we went all the days!  It was really a fun week!

Funny keiken:  At the festival we tried fun food and played some games. One game was trying to put gold fish in a bowl with rice paper. Very difficult.  But also fun. I also got this pull ice cream and it was hilarious.  The guy was way skilled in messing with people...you really had to work to get your ice cream from him! So it was fun and yummy.

Spiritual keiken: At the festival this American started to talk to us and later in the conversation we learned he is very against the church and so that ended up being not so great. We were with some people and feeling a bit down about how the conversation went, but then out of the blue, we were making origami cranes and these nice college guys talked to us and had a ton of interest in eikaiwa! They happen live way close to the church! Amazing right?! It felt like a direct gift from God.

New words:
はんたい (hantai): opposition, anti
しゅじゅつ (Shujutsu): surgery

I love you all and miss you a ton! Have a great week!

Love,

Sister Thompson

Bits and pieces from family phone calls:
Sister Berg and I are just wonderful and happy as can be!
We are challenging our zone to be BOLD and not be afraid to issue challenges to the friends we are teaching.
I made some fun connections with people in my ward...I met one sister who served in Hawaii with a girl from my home stake!
