week 20: cockroaches are not our friends
district lunch with Yearkley Choro, Jorgensen Shimai,
Woffinden Shimai, Stock Choro, and Dimmitt Shimai
こんにちは
Well this week has been an adventure. Sister Dimmitt got sick, so 6 out of the 7 days for senpai week we were inside. So senpai week is where I am senior companion for a whole week. I won't complain that we spent time inside. It was hard to find enough things to do, but youth videos, face to face videos and devotional videos helped me learn a lot. So last Monday was the only day we really went out, and it was really hard being senpai but I survived! Yesterday was miracle Monday and we taught lessons all day. We have amazing investigators! Megumi San is one of them. He loves music so before every lesson we jam out on the piano and the guitar.
Spiritual keiken: This week I watched a lot of face to face videos and devotional videos. I watched the recent YSA devotional from May and I highly suggest it to everyone. It talked about forgetting yourself and looking outward. Forgetting yourself is really important as a missionary and a servant of God. It is really hard though, so I learned a lot about just trying and then knowing it will be okay. That is what I got out of it. If you watch it, I know you will receive the guidance you need.
Funny keiken: So lots of funny moments this week. One of them involved a mosquito. I'm really allergenic to mosquitoes. It's really bad when I get bit, and the mosquitoes here in Japan are bad and so its really really bad when I get bit! Well a mosquito bit me inside our apartment and a hour later I heard a loud clap as Sister Dimmitt killed a mosquito. Then I heard "ewwww, this one had blood in it." I was laughing my head off and we both started laughing at how Sister Dimmitt avenged her companion!!! It was super funny!
Last night we came home and started the night routine. I go into the study and look and see a huge (like as long as an adult finger) cockroach.... I screamed! It hid behind one of the curtains. Sister Dimmitt is terrified of cockroaches too, so we were both freaking out and calling everyone to get some moral support as we tried to kill it. Eventually Elder Yeakley, our District Leader, answered and he tried not to laugh as we were both freaking out. After some more screaming, and some tears, we got the cockroach outside and survived!
New words ふんいき (funiki): atmosphere, mood
あめ (ame): rain or candy (depends on context)
フワフワ (fuwafuwa): fluffy
I love you all! I know God loves each of you and is aware of you! You are amazing! Look for how to serve others (forget yourself) and you can find true happiness! It is amazing the joy you feel when you help others. Try it and see what joy you find. I promise you will find joy and happiness!

Bits and pieces from family emails:
During Maddy's email time, she received her transfer call. She leaves Thursday at 11:10. She is going to Oita and her new companion will be Sister Whitney!! Oita is by the ocean so that will be a fun change! Maddy is super excited and a little scared! She is mostly nervous about taking the bus from Fukuoka to Oita all by herself...but she'll do great and she'll be fine.
With Sister Dimmitt being sick all week, lots of sweet members brought us food...lots of soup and rice...easy things for us to make.
The Kawanami family is having us over for dinner tonight...it will be sad and happy all at the same time now that I know I'm leaving.
The things I have loved most about Kurume:
I love the members.
I love how beautifully green everything is.
I love how many flowers and rice fields there are.
The members are so kind and caring--they really are the best.
I have met some of the most celestial people here.
cute new Japanese shirt!
