week 39: ohhhh, we're halfway there, ohhh-oh livin' on a prayer

Taking halfway pics and holding a sign that says
"missionary work!"

こんにちは!皆さん元気ですか?

My English is getting worse, so if my emails don't always make sense, please forgive me. This week was crazy fast! So Tuesday for P-Day, we played card games with the elders at the church, which was way fun! Wednesday was Evangelista Shimai's birthday! Yep Halloween! We had a lot of fun things including a doctor's visit! I have no cast but I still can't bike. We also went to the mall with a tongue twister on a white board and gave people candy if they did it! So fun! Thursday we had eikaiwa! Friday we taught a member's daughter the Plan of Salvation and it was really fun! She works for the military and gave us TACO BELL! First time in forever! Saturday we had our new eikaiwa class thing. This lady asked us to teach her and some of her students english and after share a "bible" message. We always talk about the Book of Mormon and it goes really well. This lady is so curious it hurts! We are really excited about this! Sunday--Evangelista Shimai just had a birthday so people have been giving her late birthday gifts and they always turn to me after and ask when my birthday is. It's really funny to see their face when I say tomorrow.  We also had a great night dendouing and talking to people.

Funny keiken: Sunday night we were out working and we ran into this lady. We were talking and Evangelista Shimai was trying to ask her when her baby was due. She kept trying and the lady was so confused. And I was trying to tell her she doesn't have any kids. Finally, the lady realized what Evangelista Shimai was asking and kinda laughed and was like "I'm not pregnant!" I was dying. Luckily, this lady had a really good sense of humor and laughed it off and we made a return appointment with her! We were laughing so hard after!

Spiritual keiken: Okay...I had a lot of realizing how blessed I was to grow up in America with my amazing family this week.  Evangelista Shimai had her birthday and I did my best to make it amazing, because it's rough being away for your birthday. As we went throughout the day, I learned of her traditions and more about her family.  I felt so blessed for the amazing birthdays I have had. It was spiritual because I gained so much gratitude for all the blessings I have been given and the ones that I can share. Please don't forget how blessed you really are!

New words:
たんじょうび(tanjoubi): birthday
きのう(kinou): yesterday
そせん(sosen): ancestors
I love you all and I'm so happy!  I can't believe how fast time flies!  I'm halfway through but the next half I'm going to work even harder! I'M HALFWAY WAY THERE... OH-OH.. LIVING ON A PRAYER! Love ya!

Love Thompson Shimai

Bits and pieces from family emails:
The halfway preggo pic idea was from a returned missionary on the base...so funny!!
My whole area stayed in tact with the transfer last week...no changes for us and I'm good with that!
I found out that only the missionaries on bases get to celebrate Thanksgiving so I'm super happy that I'm still on Okinawa!
My request for Christmas is pictures and notes! Really...that's all I want or need!

HALFWAY THERE BABY!!

We found these pictures extremely funny!!

Halloween ice cream with a photobomber!

Celebrating Evangelista Shimai's 21st birthday!

literally...she is the cutest!

Evangelista Shimai gave me sweet little notes for my birthday,
a little dalmation puppy,
and she and the elders (on the phone) sang to me!
It was the perfect way to start off our day!

Note from the mama:
I received this sweet email from Maddy's companion, and wanted to put it here for Maddy to read when she's home.

Hello mom...
