week 55: sunshine in my soul

i scream, you scream,
we ALL scream for ice cream!

こんにちは

Okay this week was insane! A couple of the days we had just back to back lessons and it was really nice to teach.  On Monday we had a double zone P-day and everyone kinda just hung out and talked. It was really fun to just be around other missionaries! Tuesday we had crazy wind and rain and after that a sunny morning appeared out of nowhere. Wednesday, we still had rain and we had a lesson at a members home with a really amazing family and a potential person to teach. Thursday we were off teaching all day and had to do splits for a bit to teach double lessons. Friday we were teaching all day too and visiting lots of returning members. Saturday we went with Tsukushi (a potential person to teach from Futenma) and saw a huge sunflower field and built a really good relationship. It was really fun too! We were able to teach her some and get to know her more. Sunday we went on splits from 11:30 am to 9:30 pm and taught 5 different lessons. It was crazy! This week we had a goal of 20 lessons per week and we beat it. We were busy but it was good.

Funny keiken: So we taught a lesson to one of our recent convert families where we taught the atonement. We used an example of the atonement where if they wanted a piece of chocolate, one person had to do 3 push ups. The same person did the 3 push ups for everyone and eventually someone is supposed to take mercy on this person and not take the chocolate, but the person still does 3 push ups and it's like the atonement. It is always there it is just our choice to accept it or not. Well it was decided I would be best for the push ups. So we did it and no one was taking mercy on me...haha! They would look at me and say "gome thompson shimai"(sorry sister thompson). 36 push ups later, my companion had mercy on me and it ended. I'm still sore!

Spiritual keiken:  This week we had a lesson with the Garcia family.  Earlier in the week we discovered we would have to go on splits to teach two lessons. I had a feeling this week I was supposed to go to the Garcia's lesson. A few days later we learned the base changed their rules for getting on and so I didn't have what I needed to get on. So we decided I would go to the other lesson. Well the big day of the lessons was came. We had to go on splits from 11:30 to 9:30. Well we started splits and sister Jorgensen had to be back at the church at 3:00 for pick up for the Garcia's lesson but traffic got super bad and she was looking like she was going to be late by like an hour. So with some rearranging and prayers and facebook messaging (I was the phoneless one) we rearranged. The new plan was that I would go to the Garcia's. So with lots of prayers, they let me on base without the new requirements! The minute the lesson began there was a question brought up and I knew it was the reason I needed to be at the lesson. This is truly God's work and he will not let me mess it up. During a lot of my mission I've worried that I will mess up it up but He will not let me. It is really amazing that he will make everything go "wrong" so that it will go the way it needs to.

New words:
とくしつ (tokushitsu): characteristic, feature
ひま(hima): free time
プッシュアップ(pusshuappu):push up

I know this work is God's work. I love this gospel. I miss you all, but I am doing a great work.

Love,

PS....Here's a little add on from later on my pday!
Today we went to Okinawa world and it had some crazy stories, but here is the one I need to share. So we went to watch the Habu show. Habu is a super poisonous snake on Okinawa. We watched the show and at the end, they let us hold this huge snake, non-poisonous. We took pics and it was so fun! After that, we went to watch a drum dance show (drumline need to learn how to do this!). In the middle of the show we heard screaming...one of the Habu had escaped! Everyone was running from the snake...it was huge! It looked like it had eaten a small child! Finally the workers came and got it. They were worried it might have really eaten a small child, so to save the life of whatever was inside, they cut it open. Guess what was inside...guess!!!......inside the snake was the BLACK SHEEP. The kind was so happy and threw a huge party! (This is a German story they shared with us at Okinawa world!)

Bits and pieces from family emails/phone calls!
We were the highest teaching companionship in the missions this week! We taught 21 lessons! We are working with a lot of returning members and it's crazy busy and amazing!
It's been so much fun getting to call home and see my family...they're still weird like always!
We have a really great rhythm going as a companionship and we're just working so hard.
